We are likely a much more violent species than we try to pretend, as standing together to stop killing the planet doesn't have a protagonist to slay. It feels like the goal has shifted to protecting alleged democracy. Fascism is something to build weapons to fight against, which is more in our wheelhouse.
It is estimated that Big Banking has invested over $7 trillion for future oil exploration projects. It’s all about the Benjamins, Sarah. The muthafuckin billionaires don’t care one whit about us poor working folk, or climate change.
How they can justify leaving a rapidly dying planet to their offspring baffles me. Yet, here we are and it’s going to continue to get worse.
I was a centrist libertarian for a lot of my late teens and early 20s. I wasn't the biggest fan of capitalism, but I thought it could be tweaked to work better.
I didn't really start being fully anti-capitalist until I had the realization that we will never be able to capitalism our way out of this problem that capitalism created.
There is no green capitalism. It's a myth those in power use to convince us their economic system isn't the reason why we're here. I can't say for sure that another system would have done better. But I know this one is fundamentally unable to do what it takes.

There is absolutely nothing we can do to deal with the core drivers of the metacrisis. We were drawing dead from the start.
The only meaningful question is how to live knowing collapse is (and always was) inevitable.
And if you feel lonely being collapse aware, well… you’ll miss these days when everyone is finally aware.
Damn right, better not everybody be aware yet.
You want to beat the rush to go back to the countryside, like Bate Hagens was saying
